First Transnational Project Meeting in Milan

Today the CREATE (Women co-create sustainable fashion garments) project partners gathered in Milan to collaborate and refine the Educators’ Handbook, a tool designed to have women of different ages, cultures and backgrounds collaborate as equals in the creative process of making sustainable fashion “capsule” collections. This is one of the project’s major outputs and once finalised, work will begin to maximise its potential to provide the enabling information for any person engaging in creating such capsule collections to positively influence the fashion industry towards social and environmental sustainability.

The CREATE project’ overall purpose is to produce learning materials and train people for unlocking the potential of female entrepreneurship to create inclusive employment opportunities for them through the production of sustainable, zero-waste fashion “capsules”. It will further foster women’s ability to deal with change, act with a critical and responsible stance and motivate them in taking part in lifelong learning possibilities.

The project is carried out by 5 diverse partners (with European and global reach), and then tested in 5 European countries. The multi-sectorial consortium will offer expertise in innovation and design, learn more about women empowerment and create a new way to tackle waste in the fashion industry, while offering new upskilling possibilities to the participants. The vision of the partners is to address environmental and social issues in the fashion and textile industry, like the environmental and social cost of the clothing and textile industry, the waste of resources and the impact of the fashion waste and the poor working conditions which are endemic in the textile industry.
